Charm is deceptive, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.

Proverbs 31:30

Everywhere we look—on TV, in magazines, billboards and even store catalogues—we are constantly bombarded with the message that for a girl to be beautiful, she must be of a certain body type and wear certain types of clothes.

Today’s media focuses so much on unrealistic beauty ideals that it can be very hard for us normal girls when we realize that we don’t fit society’s standard of beauty. We can sometimes feel upset and even depressed by the way we look and feel. But it’s at times like these that we can rejoice in the knowledge that God focuses on our inner beauty—the characteristics that last when our outside beauty fades.

But what if you don’t feel particularly beautiful on the inside either? Well, contrary to not being able to change our outward appearance except through drastic, expensive and harmful measures, God can easily change the inside to radiate beauty on the outside.

You see, the more we get to know God—by reading his letter to us (the Bible), spending time talking to him in prayer, learning about Him at youth group or church—the more we will develop the godly characteristics that God wants us to have.

No matter what we’re like now, God is continuously working in us. The closer we walk with Him, the more beautiful we become from the inside out.
